Once Chris's body was discovered in his sleeping bag 2 months after he died, the Alaska state troopers were on a hunt to figure out the identity of the body. After reviewing his journal they assumed he was botanist who was out examining plants and nature. That was the original thought, soon after they tried to find his ID or a wallet.
